A terrific book on the New York Legal System. A young, black kid is on trial for felony murder, facing 25-years to life. He writes his recollections in the form of a screenplay. An amazing and incredibly entertaining and enlightening book.
Recommended for 7-8 grade. Contains violence and graphic images.

I read a really good book recently called "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray. Genre: Fiction. Recommended for eighth grade and above. It's an incredibly interesting and absolutely captivating (but somewhat difficult) book about a girl named Gemma Doyle, aged 16, living in Victorian England. She misses her home of India, and she's shipped off by her opium- and laudanum-addicted father, snotty brother and extremely uptight grandmother to an all-girl finishing school called Spence Academy. When she learns the dark secrets of the restricted East Wing of the school, which burned down in a fire, killing two girls and the founder of the school, Eugenia Spence, she realizes her frightening past is tied closely to that of one of the girls who died- her mother. She finds out that the two girls, Sarah Rees-Toome and Mary Dowd, discovered an ancient door to a magical world, the realms, where leaves turn to butterflies and anything is possible. The women who ruled this place were called the Order, of which Sarah and Mary were prominent members. However, Sarah was lured by the evil side of the realms- the Winterlands. She sacrificed a young Gypsy girl, Carolina, and made a fearsome alliance with the evil Winterlands creatures: the dead and the damned. She changed her name to Circe, and she started the fire of the East Wing. Thought dead, Mary escaped to India and changed her name to Virginia Doyle. After Circe murdered Gemma's mother, she discovered that Gemma had been given all the magic and power of the realms- that it resided dormant within her blood. Now she's after Gemma, and it's going to take all of her power- and that of her troubled friends Anne, Felicity and Pippa- to venture into the Winterlands to defeat the source of all evil: the twisted soul of Eugenia Spence, trapped within the Tree of All Souls. Along the way, she unites with a Gypsy, Kartik, who is a member of the order Rakshana, which were the powerful men destined to be the lovers of the women of the Order. I couldn't put this book down, and right after I finished it, I started the next book in the trilogy. The second two are just as interesting, if not more, than the first one: "Rebel Angels" and "The Sweet Far Thing." Be prepared, because these books will change your life. Outside of the magical, fantastical elements, this book is about the difficulties of growing up, losing, loving, failing , succeeding and finding yourself along the way. Withing this fictional series lie the important, and often painful, lessons of life. Your outlook will never be the same.
-Brit Felsen-Parsons, Eighth Grade

I read a book called " How Stuff Works. This is book is about all the revolutionary inventions and how thye work. This book is filled woith many diagrams and holographic pictures and it shows how they run. One of my favcorite inventions described in the book was the new robot gaurd invented by the us navy. The robot gaurd II was invented to gaurd areas and scare off intruders. In the book it shows some very nice diagrams of how the robot guard shoots at intruders and has LCD xray senseors to sense when intrudrs are on the premises. Not only are there new inventions in the book they also show how the shaving razor works and for intsance the soccer ball is built. This book i would recomend to kids of ages 10 and up. The book is not a hard read and it kept me intertesd through the whole book. This is one of my favorite books and i recomend you buy it. If you can't buy it at Barnes and Noble or Bordres i recomend Amazon.

i read a book called "camp confidentail TTYL" by Melissa J. Morgan. It is a great book. It is one of my favorites. It is about 4 bestfriends who have all different problems through the summer and through school. Everything they say is confidential and they never blew eachother's secrets but they always have time to talk on their blog. It keeps you interested because you always want to know what happens next. Each problem they have teaches a lesson. It is fun to read because you can also see yourself in those probelms. It also lets you know that hopefully most of your friends will always have time to spend in your time of need.I would reccomend this book most girls and 10 and up. It is not a very long book but it is worth reading.

Gathering Blue
By Lois Lowry
Gathering blue is a companion book “the Giver”. It does not really connect to the giver but you should probably read it first. I guess it is an okay book it is not that bad. To get to the point gathering blue is about a girl named Kira. She lived in a community that is set to the future. She is not valued as much because she has a twisted leg. But she has one special talent which is to weave. After her mom dies they want to send her to the beast to kill her. But somehow she survives. Read the book to find out the rest.

Gathering Blue is an ok book because some parts were good and believable, other parts weren't good at all. It's about a girl Kira she has a twisted leg and lives in a community where disabled people are treated unfairly and discriminated. The people of the community believe that if someone is disabled they are not useful.Kira is a very skilled and talented weaver and the community needs that. You should read the rest of the book to find out what happens.

I think the book series, The Beacon Street Girls, is a very good series. It is by Annie Bryant. These books are about 5 girls always trying to get through problems they have together. i like seeing what they do to figure everything out. I think that girls would like this series better than the boys.

Hero by Perry Moore is a fantastic book about about a male teenager who has many medical problems, has super healing powers, and is metrosexual. This book includes a story of love, sports, friendship, and superheroes. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a novel about all of these things.

In the seventh grade we are done with reading a book called "Tangeriene." There were 3 parts in this book, each part got better,i thought. Although in the 3rd part the brothers true character shows, which is he is very bad and i wasn' dissapointed that he wasn't in the book that much in the first two parts. The brother seemed like a kid who just ignores his brother but at the end he is a real criminal? I found this strange. I also had another problem with the ending because the ending just seemed weird to me. The ending just left me feeling like it was a poor ending. Although the rest of the book, i liked. Part 1 seemed a little boring, but the rest was good. I would recommend this book, but its not my favorite.

How To Train Your Dragon
by Cressida Cowell

This is one of my favorite books.
In this book the star is a boy named Hiccup Horendous Haddock III.
And his best friend Fishlegs.
Hiccup is the son of the leader of the tribe the Hairy hooligans and unlike any other kids in the tribe he is very scrawny and weak. He is always being made fun of and there are always jokes about how the tribe will go once this little weak kid is the tribe leader.

This book is full of adventure, humor, imagination and story line.

In Hiccups adventure this time he has to crawl into a cave full of dangerouse dragons and take one, then he has to train it (his is not obedient)and then he has to pass the training initiation with this unobediant dragon that barely ever listens. If he fails he will be sent to be eaten by cannibals.

I read Hoot by Karl Heissen. It is about Roy Eberhardt, just moved to Forida and he encounters mysterious things such as a oy with no shoes who runs around everyday, burrowing owls, snakes with sparkling tails, alligators in a port-a-potty, and many more mysterious things. He tries to stop a new pancake house from building on these burrowing owls. This is a great book for grades 5-8.
