I have a suggestion for a good book for middle school students.
If you enjoyed Harry Potter and any other magical/fiction book, you may enjoy Eragon.
The character of the book, Eragon, is a young farm boy, who finds a mysterious blue stone, in a field, while out hunting. He attempts to trade it for food for his family, but his attempts proved futile. He had no idea the mysterious stone would hatch into a sapphire-blue dragon.
It's an awesome book and kids in middle school will like it. But it is a relatively long book, and it may be confusing to novice readers.

In 8th Grade we are all currently reading"I am the Cheese" and i have to say it is an amazing book so far.It is a mystery novel, and although it is a bit puzzling at first, it has a very well-thought out plot.

I have yet another suggestion for the Middle School books.
Lord of the Flies:
This book tells about a group of British schoolboys marooned on a tropical island. They live in a world of no adult supervision or rules. The boys begin to forge their own society, their own rules, their own rituals. Will the boys have a profitable society, or will they fall to human instinct; you will need to read the book to find out.

Another really good book is called "Girl, Interrupted." It sounds weird- it's about a girl the true story of her experience in an asylum after a suicide attempt. It's written by Susanna Kaysen. Its genre is auto-biography. This book is probably appropriate for 7th or 8th graders, but it's a bit heavy becasue of the atmosphere of the asylum and the things that happen there. This is truly a different look at being insane.

Great idea for a blog! I hope a lot of people stop by and contribute.

By the way - a good idea for parents is to read the books their children are reading. Not only is it valuable for helping with assignments but also the books have been terrific. I recently read "Rules" (5th grade assignment) and thought it was a great read.

I think that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling is a great book for middle school children and even younger children. It discusses the life of a boy named Harry Potter who does find out that he is a famous wizrad until he was eleven. Then Harry finds out that his parents were killed by an evil wizard named Voldemort but Voldemort never managed to kill Harry. He ends up going to a school called Hogwarts School of Whitchcraft and Wizardry. There he meets Voldemort again. Will Voldemort kill him? Is there something hidden at Hogwarts? Find out when you read the book.
